How a multi-site healthcare provider replaced ageing on-premise systems with a HIPAA-aligned cloud platform — phase by phase, with no interruption to patient care.

/02 Product tour
/03 Before
Clinics ran six days a week and diagnostic centres extended hours. A traditional cutover weekend — with the risk of a failed rollback on Monday morning — was not acceptable to clinical leadership.
Servers were past vendor support and the core application depended on outdated libraries. Applying security patches was slow and risky, widening the window of exposure for systems holding protected health information.
Patient lookup and schedule views slowed badly during morning peaks. Front-desk and clinical staff built workarounds on paper, creating double entry and data-quality problems.
Hardware refreshes, support contracts and specialist contractors absorbed most of the IT budget, leaving little for patient-facing improvements such as online booking or digital intake forms.
Only a handful of people understood the legacy application's data model and integrations with labs and billing. Every departure increased operational risk.
Shared accounts and coarse permissions made it difficult to demonstrate who had accessed which patient records — a core expectation of the HIPAA Security Rule's technical safeguards.
/04 After
We mapped every module, database, interface and scheduled job — including lab, imaging and billing integrations — and ranked components by clinical criticality and technical risk before moving anything.
Each phase ran the new and legacy systems side by side, with automated reconciliation of records, schedules and billing outputs. Cutover happened only after results matched and clinical super-users signed off, with a tested rollback plan for every step.
Stable components were re-hosted to the cloud with minimal change. The most fragile modules — scheduling and patient record lookup — were rebuilt as cloud-native services with a modern web front end, removing the performance bottlenecks at source.
The target environment was designed around the HIPAA Security Rule: encryption in transit and at rest, network segmentation, least-privilege IAM, centralised logging, automated backups and a signed business associate agreement with the cloud provider.
Shared accounts were retired. Every user has role-based permissions and every access to a patient record is logged, making access reviews and investigations straightforward.
Architecture decisions, runbooks and monitoring dashboards were documented and handed over, with hands-on training for the internal team so the new platform does not depend on a few individuals.
/05 Scope
/06 Outcome
Every phase went live after parallel validation, so clinics and diagnostic centres kept operating normally throughout the programme.
Retiring out-of-support hardware and legacy support contracts freed budget for patient-facing services.
Rebuilt lookup and scheduling services removed the morning-peak slowdowns staff had worked around for years.
Managed cloud services and a modern codebase made routine patching low-risk and fast.
Every patient-record access is attributable to a named user with a role, supporting HIPAA access reviews.
/07 Payoff
Encryption, segmentation, least-privilege access and centralised logging reduce breach risk and simplify compliance reviews.
Savings funded online appointment booking and digital intake — projects that had been deferred for years.
Fast, reliable systems at the front desk and in the consulting room mean less paperwork and fewer workarounds.
Automated backups and multi-zone infrastructure replaced a single on-premise server room as the point of failure.
Documentation, runbooks and training mean the platform is supportable by the wider team, not a few specialists.
New clinics can be brought onto the platform without buying and configuring on-site servers.
/08 Wrap-up
In healthcare, modernisation that disrupts care is not modernisation anyone will accept. By sequencing the migration in validated phases, rebuilding only what was fragile, and designing the cloud environment around HIPAA safeguards from day one, this provider replaced a risky legacy estate without a single care-impacting outage.
The payoff is twofold: a stronger security posture in the industry where breaches cost the most, and an IT budget that can finally fund better patient experiences instead of propping up ageing hardware.

Vyrazu built an AI agent that handles our entire supplier negotiation workflow. What took a team of 6 analysts now runs overnight, autonomously, with better outcomes than we achieved manually.
Their LLM-assisted migration tool cut our 18-month COBOL replatform to 11 weeks. The AI-generated tests caught edge cases our engineers hadn't even thought of. Genuinely impressive engineering.
The RAG pipeline they built pulls from 40,000 internal documents in milliseconds. Our support team now resolves tickets 3× faster and customer satisfaction scores have jumped 28 points.
We came in sceptical about AI agents in production. Vyrazu's reliability engineering approach — guardrails, observability, fallbacks — gave us the confidence to go live. Zero incidents in 8 months.
Their fraud detection model now catches 99.7% of fraudulent transactions at 2M+ per day. It paid back its entire development cost within the first 6 weeks of going live.
Vyrazu treats AI ROI as a first-class requirement. Every model ships with a business metric attached — cost saved, decisions automated, revenue influenced. That discipline is rare and exactly what we needed.
